(I was there for a decade.) Stories in other newspapers were matched, verified and expanded upon by AP through our own reporting. Actual "pick ups" from other newspapers were reserved for true exclusives. Then, AP would follow up with its own updated version. As a former journalist, I'm concerned with how our coverage will consist of fewer voices. Hopefully journalists out of the business will find ways to practice their craft through such things as social media. This is another sign of the crumbling newspaper industry.
