The problem with layoffs is that the unproductive old timers generally get to keep their jobs, whilst the go-getter, ambitious help, get the bullet.

Sad to say, it will probably continue to be a very difficult time for newspapers. While I understand the need to cut jobs, I just can’t see how having fewer employees won’t result in a drop off in quality.
