Uh, Kevin, it really doesn't matter all that much whether the HTML/CSS/Javacsript app is on a server in Timbuktu, or loaded directly on the phone. HTML /CSS/Javascript is nice from a development standpoint, but unless there is a way for you to store and retrieve app data, through something like SQLite, there are not going to be any real engaging apps for the device.

If they are using WebKit, there's a good chance you'll be able to use SQLite, if Palm is including that in the development stack. But with no mention of it, I'm very skeptical.

Eric, don't confuse web based apps (like apple had) with the browser based aps for the pre. From what I hear, they may be browser based, but actually reside on the phone itself. With exceptions of course, the ones that need a web connection to work properly.

Thats my read on it, and of course, that and 1.50 will get you part of a cup of coffee at starbucks.

Um, I don't think they will get far. I've bought Palms twice and considered both a major failure.

And where's all the yelling and whining about web-based apps? People were all over Apple for doing the exact same thing and said they wouldn't buy iPhones until they had an SDK to build "real" apps.

Was Palm asleep for most of 2007?

Actually they mentioned Exchange support, so they have corporate email covered. RIM is not safe from the Pre, I actually think Palm will take more share from RIM than Apple.
