Google Mistakes Michael Jackson’s Death for an “Automated Attack”

michael-jackson-searchesOne last Michael Jackson Web traffic story: Google says it received so many search queries with the late singer’s name on Thursday that it thought it was being targeted by an “automated attack.” Which meant that some visitors looking for Jackson info on Google News got an error message for about 25 minutes yesterday.

So That’s What $100 Million Gets You: Microsoft’s Bing Grabbing More Search Share–For Now

If this keeps up, I may have to modify my trustworthy “TV ads can’t buy you search share” axiom. Apparently, Microsoft’s gazillion-dollar campaign for Bing is working, at least in the short term: comScore says Microsoft continues to grab search share from Google.

One Time Inc. Casualty: Digital Boss Ned Desmond

Time Inc. still hasn’t figured out exactly how many people the magazine publisher will fire this fall — the 600 number reported earlier this week, we’re told, is a guesstimate. In the meantime there are plenty of high-level org chart changes, like the departure of Ned Desmond, a longtime Time Inc. vet who was most recent title was President of Time Inc. Interactive.
